EDCC – Every Day Conditioning Carry

Every successive year for Apex Sapien engenders increased rigor and result if On Path. The January fast start undoubtably provides challenge to even the best of time managers. Despite your commitment to occupational craft and initiative, one must find hacks ensuring strength and conditioning does not fall to the wayside of priority. Remember that when On Path, refreshment and fueling of mind is facilitated through the cascading effects of physical challenge; necessary inertias when gathering experience points (EXP) for leveling up.

Introducing the concept of Every Day Conditioning Carry (EDCC). The “just in case” life saving equipment you will need for strength and conditioning in any environment and any time. Below provides equipment specific recommendations based off the Left Coast Caveman’s current EDCC.

Pack

Making a comeback from the 90’s, the “fanny pack” is quickly regaining popularity. In the Army we called a similar small pack attached to our LBV (load bearing vest) as the “buttpack”. I recommend a similar reframe to help get over the lame civilian naming convention that prematurely put an end to a highly productive, efficient, and comfortable everyday carry.

Currently using the SOE butt pack (link below) as its size, style, and comfort is most adequate. Specs such as neutral color, American made, velcro in all the right places, and durability that can’t be unnoticed. Although pricey and with substantial manufacturing leads times, there are perhaps more economical options available upon research. Let’s be clear though: this butt pack will not disappoint.

Every Day Fitness Equipment

The butt pack is indeed limited in capacity, but can hold essentials. Below are a few items that open possibilities for those on the go with intent of continuing strength and conditioning the body anywhere and anytime without excuse.

  • Phone: loaded with music, LCC videos, or Tabata / timer for structure. This pack will ensure phones are kept safe and from being cumbersome during movement.
  • Elite FTS fitness bands: 1-2 of differing resistance can fit. Attach to a park bench, tree, or sign; even without anchor, bands can be configured on body to provide increased load and or accommodated resistance in effective ways.
  • Rage Wire Jump rope: Adjustable and cuts the air for fast foot action. Great for speed work, zone 2 conditioning, balance, foot strength, and high end Tabata work.
  • Knife: you may find yourself out in the hills amongst mountain lion or coyote risk, perhaps in on-grid environments leaving you vulnerable to urban piracy. Never be a victim or find yourself unprepared for when hero mode is activated.
  • Snack: although the Sapien should be able to survive hours without caloric intake, a bar, or can of tuna with spoon can be helpful in staving off hunger and any arising excuses arising from conditions of low fuel.
