In the renewed age of mistrust and illumination of government and big business conspiracy, health mandating for the benefit of the masses continues to come under justified scrutiny. As the pandemic evidenced, questions and critical thinking, along with comprehensive and peer reviewed disclosures should be requisite for widespread policy when involving forced chemicals from injected to ingested. The reciprocal relationship between judicial mandate and benefit of any business entity is inextricable in any market economy. Inherently this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, although the slope is slippery when greased sufficiently with quid pro quo incentive. We should strive to be aware of this.
As we are continuing emergence from multiple acute and chronic health disasters through aforementioned collusion of university, government, and business, we must continue to map connections of profit; often these azimuths lead in directions far from health.
Starting in 1998, the FDA created mandates stipulating grain enrichment with synthetic folic acid in the name of population health. Affecting the broad majority of grocery items found center store (grain, rice, flour, and anything processed), the campaign is directed at safeguarding newborn babies from neural tube defects (brain and spinal cord deformity that affected ~.2% of live births). Arguably a low risk and easily preventable condition (see folate RDA at bottom) that was deemed worthy of government and pharmaceutical interdiction.
Following this massive joint intervention through fortifying crops with man made folic acid, studies suggest a 35-50% reduction of this small rate of defect. Arguably successful, but there are emerging concerns regarding unintentional consequences from artificial enrichment.
There is evidence that this non-organic form of folate (folic acid) may not be effectively metabolized by many causing a litany of reactions and widespread chronic conditions to all ages of population:
Pathologies associated with folic acid intolerance
Gastrointestinal: Diarrhea and issues with gut motility.
Irritability: Depression and mood disorder.
Weakness and fatigue: Energy metabolism disruption.
The correlation between folic acid enrichment and increasing numbers of above symptoms now affecting the masses is certainly worth exploring. Consider that pharmaceutical companies creating this enrichment are now also creating incremental revenue streams directly influenced by drugs treating this wide range of newly acquired symptoms. Suspiciously convenient and profitable solutions.
The deaths and defects of babies are never to be taken lightly. But the mandated response and possible population wide health consequences in efforts of avoiding a relatively small defect is irresponsible. More so as the causation (and mandated intervention) of NTDs are due to low levels of folate: a B vitamin found abundantly in nuts, beans and green leafy vegetables. The government solution (mandating man made folic acid in lieu of folate) In the name of health, disproportionately affects the majority negatively and the pockets of many industries propitiously….where have we seen this pattern of action before??
What is Folate?
Folate is known as vitamin B9 and plays a key role in many bodily functions: essential for cell division, DNA synthesis, and the production of red blood cells. Folate is especially important during periods of rapid growth such as pregnancy, infancy, and adolescence.
RDA of Folate
Male and female adults: 400 mcg per day
Women of childbearing age: 600 mcg per day
A Day of Eating to Hit Folate RDA
- Breakfast: 1 cup of lentils (358 mcg); 1 medium orange (50 mcg).
- Lunch: quinoa salad with 1 cup of cooked quinoa (77 mcg); 1 cup of cooked spinach (263 mcg); .5 cup of avocado (59 mcg)
- Snack: handful of sunflower seeds (82 mcg)
- Dinner: 3oz Grilled chicken breast (3 mcg),; 1 cup of cooked asparagus (268 mcg); 1 cup cooked Brussels sprouts (93 mcg)
- Snack: 1 medium papaya (115 mcg)
Eat your veggies and stray from fortified / enriched fueling. Natural and organic foods are naturally “enriched & fortified” without the intervention of pharmaceutical. Let food by thy medicine.
