Primal Primer 5 (Fitness)

Chairs, car seats, Lazy Boy Recliners (ironically prophetic), love seats, and beds are artificially separating us from natural posture and connection with earth. Our ancestor’s intimate linkage to earth from birth, death, and everything in-between has only recently been disrupted in the name of comfort. This barrier indelibly imprisons our organic composition from elemental source, casting our bodies from functional postures, into forms of comfort that distort our musculoskeletal and circulatory systems.

Return To Ground

Trade in prone supported “conveniences” and cozy up to mother earth. Simple acts such as floor sitting at home encourages your body to actively stabilize back, open hips, and stimulates timely adjustments (Sapiens do not naturally sit for hours in the same position). The concept of floor sitting also provides added practice of Standing Return (scaleable in difficulty I.E. standing from cross legged position without using hands).

Building a habit of ground sitting results in accumulating less tightness, pain, compensation, and loss of mobility over time. In outdoor settings, the added benefit of “grounding / earthing” may also provide a re-polarization of red blood cells as skin contact with earth is alleged to discharge electrical accumulation (caused by material frictions). When connecting with the ground, electrons are provided a natural concentration gradient of flow; returning to the earth reservoir, and resetting sapien blood cells to a state of natural repulsion (clotting of RBCs are generally not good outside of specific instances of wound healing). This return of polarity (normalizing blood cell distancing) is hypothesized to encourage blood flow while enhancing nutrient and waste circulation.

~Cave Implementation~

Return to ground where practical and accessible both indoors and outdoors. Trade in the standard seated desk for adjustable standing options (can raise and lower for comfort) and intermittently stand if your job is office related (helpful for managing energy, digestion, and conference call confidence projection). When watching TV or consuming content on mobile apps, abscond from the couch and lounge on a rug. When in nature, refrain from fold up chairs, swapping for a blanket mat, or better: grass and ground.
